my favorite saying/poem
After a while, you learn the subtle differenceBetween holding a hand and chaining a soul,And you learn that love doesn’t mean leaningAnd company doesn’t mean security. And you begin to learn that kisses aren’t contracts,And presents aren’t promises,And you begin to accept your defeatsWith the grace of God, not the grief of a child, And you learn to build all your roads on todayBecause tomorrow’s ground is too uncertain for plans,And futures have a way of falling down in mid-flight. And after a while you learnThat even sunshine burns if you get too much.So you plant your own garden and decorate your own soul,Instead of waiting for someone to bring you flowers. And you learn that you really can endure …That you really are strongAnd you really do have worthAnd you learn and learn … And with every goodbye, you learn.

ReplyDeleteThank you for all your sweet comments, they made my day! I first read this quote in Chicken Soup for the Teenage Soul when I was in high school and I printed it out and hung it up in my room. I really love(d) it! Your children are beautiful :)
